About PBS

Our story, our mission, our community

PBS is a community-based burial society serving families in Kwa Ndebele, Mpumalanga. We are neighbors helping neighbors, standing together when it matters most.

When a loved one passes, no family should face the burden alone. Through our monthly gatherings and shared commitment, we ensure that every member receives the support and dignity they deserve during life's most difficult moments.

Our membership is built on trust and invitation—current members bringing in family and friends who share our values of community support and togetherness.

Our Story

Built by neighbors, for neighbors

PBS was founded on a simple but powerful idea: when tragedy strikes, no family in our community should face the burden alone. Our founding members saw the need for a support system that goes beyond financial assistance—one rooted in genuine community connection and mutual care.

What began as a small group of neighbors committed to supporting each other has grown into a trusted community of over 50 families. Through monthly meetings, shared contributions, and unwavering commitment to one another, we've built something special—a safety net woven from the threads of trust, respect, and ubuntu.

We are not just a burial society; we are a family. We celebrate together, support each other through hardships, and ensure that every member is treated with the dignity they deserve, especially during life's most difficult moments.

Our Mission

To provide dignified burial support and community solidarity for families in Kwa Ndebele through mutual aid, transparency, and genuine care for one another.

Our Vision

A community where no family faces loss alone, where every member knows they are supported, and where dignity and respect are guaranteed for all.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide everything we do

1

Ubuntu - Togetherness

We believe in the African philosophy of Ubuntu: "I am because we are." Our strength comes from our collective commitment to one another. When one family hurts, we all feel it. When one family needs support, we all respond.

2

Transparency & Trust

Trust is the foundation of our community. We operate with complete transparency—every contribution is accounted for, every decision is made collectively, and every member has a voice at our monthly meetings.

3

Dignity & Respect

Every life matters. Every family deserves a dignified farewell for their loved ones. We ensure that funeral arrangements reflect the respect and honor that each person deserves, without adding financial stress to grieving families.

4

Community Accountability

We hold ourselves accountable to each other. Through our monthly meetings and active participation, we ensure that our burial society remains strong, sustainable, and true to its purpose.

How We Operate

Built on community participation and trust

Membership by Invitation

PBS operates on the principle of trust-based membership. New members join through invitation from current members—people who know them, trust them, and can vouch for their commitment to our community values.

This approach ensures that every member shares our dedication to mutual support and understands the importance of consistent participation. It's not about exclusion; it's about maintaining the trust and reliability that make our burial society effective.

Monthly Community Meetings

The heart of PBS is our monthly meetings. These gatherings are where we:

  • Come together as a community
  • Make monthly contributions
  • Discuss community matters and updates
  • Welcome new members
  • Support families who have experienced loss
  • Maintain accountability and transparency

Our meetings are more than administrative—they're about connection, solidarity, and keeping our community strong.

Community-Led Leadership

PBS is led by an elected executive committee—community members you know and trust. Our leadership is accountable to the membership and operates with complete transparency. Every decision is made with the community's best interests at heart.
